Yonah Martin
November 7, 2009
Ms. Yonah Martin was appointed to the Senate at the beginning of 2009 and sits as a Conservative representing British Columbia. She immigrated to that province with her family as a young girl, having been born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. She is the first person of Korean descent to serve in the Canadian Parliament.
Ms. Martin has been a major force for bridging the cultural gap for new immigrants and is well-know for her work with arts festivals and mentoring young people.
Ms Martin sits on the Senate Committee for Social Affairs, Science and Technology and also the special committee for Cities.
She is married to Doug Martin and they have one daughter – Kiana Mi-Sun.
Let us pray for her that in her new role she will be able to balance the responsibilities of being a mother, wife and Parliamentarian. May she be granted good health and great wisdom, as well as new friends in Ottawa.
