Richard Neufeld

Richard Neufeld was appointed to the Senate at the beginning of 2009 by P.M. Stephen Harper.  He sits as a member of the Conservative Caucus and represents the province of British Columbia.

Senator Neufeld has a long background in politics.  He was the mayor of Fort Nelson, and then represented the region in the provincial assembly for a number of terms, and served as a Cabinet minister.

Mr. Neufeld currently sits on the Senate Committees for Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources and also National Finance.

Let’s pray for him that he will quickly find good friends and colleagues as he serves in Ottawa, and that he will have the wisdom, integrity and health to serve our nation at this critical time.

Lowell Murray

Mr. Lowell Murray was appointed to the Senate in 1979 by P.M. Joe Clark and sits as a Progressive Conservative.  He represents Packenham, Ontario.

Mr. Murray had a long career in politics, having been a Cabinet Minister, a member of the Privy Council and the leader of the Government in the Senate at different times.  He is one of the longest serving senators in the Upper House.

Mr. Murray is married to Colleen and they have two children, William and Colin.

Let us pray for him that he will have good health to enjoy his family and also give his energy to the work in the Senate.  May the Lord use him, and his experience in the Upper Chamber to be a force that brings people together for good purposes for our nation.

Jim Munson

Mr. Jim Munson was appointed to the Senate in 2003 by P.M Jean Chretien.  He sits as a member of the Liberal Caucus and represents the region of Ottawa/Rideau Canal in Ontario.

Mr. Munson is well known for his long career in television journalism with CTV, but he also held the position of the Director of Communications for P.M. Jean Chretien before being appointed to the Senate.

He sits on several Senate Committees: Human Rights, Internal Economy, Budgets and Administration, Social Affairs, Science and Technology, and also is the deputy chair of the Selection Committee.

With all of these responsibilities, let us pray for Mr. Munson that he will have good working relationships with all his colleagues and be a force for cooperation in the Senate.  May he have health and strength to fulfill the purposes of his life and yet also devote energy to his children.

Wilfred P. Moore

Mr. Wilfred Moore was appointed to the Senate by P.M. Jean Chretien in 1996 to represent Nova Scotia.  He is a member of the Liberal Caucus.

Mr. Moore has had a distinguished career in law and in community service in the Halifax area.  He is a big booster of support for universities in the Atlantic provinces.

Wilfred Moore sits on the Senate Committee for Banking, Trade and Commerce and also National Security and Defence.

Let’s pray for Mr. Moore that he would have the wisdom that comes from above to discharge his duties as a senator.  May the Lord give him health and strength to continue to be an influence for blessing in our nation and especially in the Atlantic provinces.

Percy Mockler

Mr. Percy Mockler was appointed to the Senate in December of 2008 by P.M. Stephen Harper.  He sits as a member of the Conservative Caucus and represents the province of New Brunswick.

Previous to being a senator, Mr. Mockler had a long and distinguished career in politics in the province of New Brunswick, holding many portfolios in the government.

He current is the Chair of the Senate Committee for Agriculture and Forestry and also sits on the Official Languages Committee.  Mr. Mockler is also a member of the Parliamentary Assembly of la Francophonie, an international body drawing together Francophones across the world.

Percy Mockler is married to Suzanne Soucy and they have 4 sons, with whom they live in St. Leonard, N.B.

Let us pray for Mr. Mockler in his new responsibilities in the Senate.  May he have wisdom to chair the Agriculture and Forestry committee and quickly be able to find common ground working across party lines in that committee and in his other roles.  May he have grace to be a great father and husband in the midst of this work in Parliament.

Grant Mitchell

Mr. Grant Mitchell was appointed to the Senate in 2005 by P.M. Paul Martin.  He sits as a member of the Liberal Caucus and represents the province of Alberta.

With degrees in political science, Mr. Mitchell was a provincial member of legislature for many years and eventually was the leader of the opposition in Alberta.  He currently is the deputy Chair of the Committee for Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources and also sits on the committee for Human Rights.

Mr. Mitchell is married to Teresa and they have 3 sons, Lucas, Liam and Grady.

Let us pray for Mr. Mitchell, that he will be able to be a strong father and a great husband in the midst of his responsibililties in Ottawa.  May the Lord grant him wisdom as he gives input into two very important Committees.

Lorna Milne

Ms. Lorna Milne was appointed to the Senate in 1995 and sits as a member of the Liberal Caucus representing the Peel region of Ontario.  She has only one more week left in her term as a Senator! 

  A graduate of the University of Guelph, Ms. Milne has been a lecturer, business woman, community activist and has a special interest and expertise in genealogies.

She has been sitting on the Committee for Legal and Constituitonal Affairs and also the Committee for Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources.

Let’s pray for Lorna Milne that as she retires that she will have the joy of knowing that there will be long-term fruit for all her labours for our nation.  May she have good health to enjoy her retirement from life as a busy Senator.

Pana Merchant

Ms. Pana Merchant was appointed to the Senate in  December 2002 by Prime Minsiter Chretien and sits as a member of the Liberal Caucus.  She is only the second woman to represent Saskatchewan in the Senate.

Ms. Merchant has degrees from the University of Saskatchewan and also the University of Regina.  With a background in teaching, business, and community work she brings an understanding of the challenge for immigrant women to her work.

Ms. Merchant sits on two committees in the Senate. The Committee for Transport and Communications and also the Committee for Energy, the Environment and Natural Resources.

Pan Merchant is married and has three sons.

Let us pray for her that she will be blessed with great friendships across party lines as whe works on these important Senate committees.  May the Lord give her wisdom to represent  her province well and good health to keep doing it for her full term.

Terry M. Mercer

Mr. Terry Mercer was appointed to the Senate in 2003 by Prime Minister Jean Chrétien and represents the region of Northend Halifax in Nova Scotia.  He is the Chair of the Liberal Caucus in the Senate.

Previous to that Mr. Mercer was the National Director of the Liberal Party for 8 years and before that was the Director of several different large charitable organizations.  He has great expertise in fundraising and is very active with the Association of Fundraising Professionals.

Mr. Mercer sits on the Committee for Agriculture and Forestry and also the Committee for Transport and Communications.

He is married to Ellen and they have a son Michael, and they all live in Halifax.

Let us pray for Mr. Mercer that he will find ways to bring cooperation in the Senate across party lines for the good of the whole country.  May he be given grace to be a good husband and father in the midst of his heavy responsibilities.

Michael A. Meighen

Mr. Michael Meighen was appointed in 1990 to represent the St. Marys’ region of Ontario in the Senate.  He sits as a member of the Conservative Caucus.  He is the grandson of former Prime Minister Arthur Meighen.

Originally born in Montreal and trained there in law, Mr. Meighen has now served for 19 years in the Upper Chamber and is one of most respected members of the Senate, having sat on many different committees.

He currently chairs  the Senate Committee for Banking, Trade and Commerce and also chairs the Subcommittee for Veteran Affairs as part of the National Security and Defence Committee.

He has been married to Kelly for 31 years and they have 3 sons, Ted, Hugh and Max.

Let us pray for Michael Meighen that he would enjoy good health and strength in order to perform the very important roles that he has in our government.  May he receive wisdom from God to impart to the committees that he leads and good cooperation with his colleagues.
