Lawrence Cannon

June 26, 2010

The Honourable Lawrence Cannon is a Member of Parliament for the Conservatives and represents the riding of Pontiac in Quebec which includes a portion of the province just across the river from Ottawa in the Gatineau region.

Mr. Cannon was first elected into office in 2006 and has served as a cabinet minister twice.  The first was in the role of the Minister of Transport, and the second role which he currently occupies is the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Mr. Cannon had active roles in municipal and provincial politics before running for federal leadership.  Now, as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade he is involved in making important decisions that affect the nation.  As stated on his website,  The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) is a point of convergence for some of the most important issues presently facing Canada and the world.  The functions of the Minister extend to and include all matters over which Parliament has jurisdiction, not by law assigned to any other department, board or agency of the Government of Canada, relating to the conduct of the external affairs of Canada, including international trade and commerce and international development.

All of this to say that Mr. Cannon needs wisdom.  Please pray for him as this position would be considered the second most important position in the nation behind the Prime Minister, and they work closely together.  Pray especially for his key role in the G8 and G20 Summit going on this weekend.

Mr. Cannon lives in Gatineau with his wife Christine.
